The Niger State government has warned traders against hoarding food items to create artificial scarcity.
The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Jonathan Vatsa in a statement yesterday said such an act would cause more hardship to the people, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
He appealed to farmers and the people to be wary of such persons and put the interest of people above any profiteering venture.
The commissioner said the government would not condone illegality where middlemen rip the farmers of their hard work and hoard food from the public, thereby causing hardship for the people.
He reminded people hoarding food items that such behaviour would prevent others from enjoying the bumper harvest recorded in the state.
Vatsa, however, commended the people for their support for government policies and programmes aimed at tackling economic recession.
