LIFE has not been the same for Alabi Abdulrahman, an 11-year old boy, since he was diagnosed of a congenital heart disease (Tetralogy of Fallot) in 2009. And since then, the Paediatric Cardiology unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, has been his second home.

Alabi, who has for over 20 months been on clinic follow-up and medication, now urgently requires further evaluation and surgical correction of this defect. He waits on government and kind-hearted members of the public to help in raising N3 million for heart surgery.

Narrating their ordeal since the medical diagnosis and treatment commenced nearly seven years ago, parents of the boy, Musiliudeen and Muibat Alabi said: “We discovered he was a special child when he was born. He attends a special school and uses drugs to stay alive. We have been taking him to LASUTH since 2009 for treatment. We did the first scan for him when he was five years old on February 11, 2010.

“We spend so much money on his drugs. The surgery, which may or may not be done in Nigeria, will cost us about N3 million. We are pleading with kind-hearted Nigerians to come to our son’s aid,” the parents pleaded.
